Internet requirements: As all of your study materials are provided online you need to have frequent and reliable access to a computer and the internet. This is particularly important as IT issues are generally not considered a reason to grant assessment extensions. All UniReady students have access to the computers in Curtin’s Library and Abacus computer labs. You can also access free Wi-Fi on campus. If you do not live near campus, many Public Libraries provide free internet access. Software requirements: You must have access to word processing software such as Microsoft Word or Google Docs. You will also need a PDF reader such as Adobe Acrobat Reader. It is recommended that you do not use Apple Pages. If you must use Apple Pages you must export your file in Microsoft Word or PDF format before submitting. If a student submits a Pages file and it cannot be opened it will likely result in a mark of ‘0’. You can access the Microsoft Office Web Applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) for free through your Student email account. Google Docs files can be saved and exported to word (.doc or .docx) format. You should organise a way to backup your work. It is your responsibility to ensure you have backup copies of all your work as generally computer issues are not considered a valid reason for assessment extensions. For example, if the only copy of your work was on a UBS and you lose it, you would not be given an extension. It is important to organise your filing and backup system now before the study period begins. There are many online (Google Drive, Dropbox etc) and offline (external hard drive, storing copies on different computers etc) options for backing up your work. Other materials: If you are studying the units Introduction to Commerce or Applying Mathematics you will need access to a scientific calculator. As this is to be taken into your exams you cannot use the calculator on your phone. You are not permitted to take a graphics calculator into your exam, it must be scientific. You will also need to ensure you have stationary that you can use throughout the course such as a notebook or file, pens and pencils and spare paper.
